FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a Doctor’s referral?
As physiotherapy is a direct contact medical profession, you do not require a doctor’s referral to seek physiotherapy care in Canada.  Some insurance providers require a doctor’s referral in order to receive reimbursement of assessment and treatment costs, so it is best to call them for clarification.
What can I expect on my first visit?
Your first visit will take approximately 45-60 minutes. This is an Assessment and Treatment.

Follow Up visits are usually between 40-60 minutes.

How long will I have to wait to see a physiotherapist at Marda Loop Physiotherapy?
Generally you can be assessed by a physiotherapist within a few days of your call to make an appointment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments vary according to the severity and level of acuteness (how soon after initial injury) of your complaint.  We generally find the sooner one seeks rehabilitation care, the faster one is able to recover.  Most clients experience a positive change in their condition within 1-3 sessions.
Do you communicate with my Doctor, Massage Therapist or other members of my health team?
Once we have received your consent, we communicate openly our findings and progress with all the members on our client’s health care team, from their doctor to massage therapist.
Will my medical information and treatment records be handled confidentially?
Your information is treated confidentially and is protected by the New Practice Standards for Physical Therapists in Alberta, January 2005 (www.cpta.ab.ca) and by the Privacy Information & Protection Act (PIPA, www.govt.ab.ca).
Does the government cover any of the costs of my treatment?
Since the early 1990’s the provincial government has been decreasing the amount of funding that is available for out-patient physiotherapy.  At the present time government funding is available in selected sites around Calgary for out patient physiotherapy that is related to post fracture and post surgical rehabilitation.  For more information please contact the Calgary Health Region (http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/physio/) Although we do not have any government funding at our clinic we would be delighted to provide assessment and treatment for such issues under a private payment method.
Do you have free parking?
Although this is rare in Calgary, we are proud to offer you ample free parking right in front of our clinic door!
